Why choose an acupuncture course
that is accredited by BAAB?

BAAB Accredited courses guarantee excellence in training, safe practice, and professional conduct. Accredited course providers offer a final award threshold at Level 6 which represents 360 credits. Typically, this equated to a bachelor's degree with honours. Individual course providers may call their award a licentiate, diploma, or degree in acupuncture according to their circumstances.

Ensuring excellence

Accredited courses embody the critical awareness, academic rigour, and clinical practice standards commensurate with equivalent professional healthcare programmes at this level. Each teaching institution designs and develops its own curriculum, based on a total of 3,600 hours, of which a minimum of 400 hours must be spent in a clinical setting.

A BAAB accredited course offers a thorough grounding in Chinese medicine theory and clinical practice, together with western medical sciences, research, and practice management, to provide an integrated understanding of both traditional eastern and modern western approaches to healthcare.

Graduates of BAAB accredited courses are eligible to join the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the UK's lead governing body for acupuncture.

Fully Accredited Courses

These are courses that currently substantially meet the requirements of BAAB. Scrutiny of these developed programmes has been through documentation, discussion with the course team, students and graduates of the programme, evidence of external examiner reports and students' assessed work and observation of teaching in the classroom, the clinic and online.

The institutions can be found by clicking on the pin on the map below. They are also listed in alphabetical order on our accredited courses page.

Demonstrating excellence

The PSA helps to protect the public by overseeing organisations that register and regulate people working in health and social care.

It works with statutory regulated healthcare professional organisations such as the General Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, as well as self-regulated organisations such as the BAcC.
