Standards

Our guidance Framework of Educational Standards for Acupuncture provides more detail. These are the most important of our resources to familiarise yourself with as they standards that you will be assessed by when attending or retaining BAAB accreditation.

(Re-)Accreditation in a nutshell

Both processes are similar, but our advice is to get in touch as soon as possible in the process of developing a new course as we can support you during the initial stages of development. Similarly early involvement in reviewing an established course is also recommended. BAAB is happy to act as a critical friend which makes speaking to us early a good option, enabling BAAB to provide a clear steer before you begin, hopefully making the review of your programme straightforward.

The latest you should leave it to notify us that you are planning to accredit a new course or reaccrediting an existing one is three months.

In preparation for either event, you will need to supply us with some documentation. We will be looking for two things – that what you are teaching is appropriate and that how you teach it, and resource it, is too. To do that we are looking at how well you meet BAcC Standards of Education and BAAB’s Framework of Educational Standards for Acupuncture.

You might be interested in how our standards came about. You will find this in our pocket guide to the history of acupuncture accreditation (see resources you will need section) but it is worth noting that they are benchmarked with both QAA expectations as well as those from other healthcare regulators.

A full description of this process is available in the BAAB Accreditation Handbook.
